About The Artist
Joanne King is the artist behind Feels Like August. She is the sole creator of all the artwork you see on this site, and on her company instagram and Facebook, @TheKingGallery.
Joanne is a painter, digital artist and illustrator. She loves to create and dabble in as many artistic endeavors as her heart desires. So she refers to herself as an all around artist and creator.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York Joanne has considered herself an artist from a very young age, always expressing herself in an artful. However, she did not begin with a paintbrush, but a pencil. Joanne drew pictures for many years before picking up a paint brush, but once she started she couldn't stop.
Always wanting to show appreciation for black people especially black women, like herself. You will see that many of her pieces are geared towards black women, their struggle, beauty and triumph. Joanne also paints abstract pieces as she feels they truly breaks the boundaries between artist and consumer, both interpreting and adding their own meaning to each piece.
Now, Joanne paints in her home in Brooklyn, and sells her artwork online. You can find her at pop-up shops, art shows and galleries around NYC. Always thinking of the next creation to sign her name to.
She recently changed her company name from Feels Like August to The King Gallery because she felt it was more suiting.
